SWINGIN'

JIM KERL'S
SWINGIN' 60s
ORCHESTRA

joey jewell One of the best tribute artists around and a top-notch big band! Join singer Joey Jewell and Jim Kerl's "Swingin Sixties" Orchestra for a swingin trip back in time to the Las Vegas Strip. You'll feel like you're in the Sands Hotel once again with Dino, Sammy, Bobby Darin and Ol' Blue Eyes. Special guests include singers Kelly Ash and Matt Vail.
Joey Jewell's performance is true to the incomparable phrasing and vocal texture of Frank Sinatra and evokes the swaggering spirit of the Rat Pack and Vegas in their heyday. And Jim Kerl's big band has the energy and excitement to keep you going all night, wonderfully smooth and sophisticated arrangements, and the musical chops and passion to play it all.
The show is smart, funny, and a wonderful tribute to the lost art of livin' it up. You'll feel like you're in "The Big Room" at the Sands and life is good."

About the Auburn Avenue Theater

For over 30 years, the Auburn Avenue Theater has presented a diversity of live performances, including Broadway musicals, mystery theater, children's theater, and concerts. The Douglas family, producers of the fine dinner theater featured at the Auburn Avenue Theater for over 20 years, leased the venue to the City of Auburn to continue operating as a performing arts space. In 2007 The City of Auburn reopened the venue, expanding this time-honored tradition of live, quality performing arts, variety entertainment, children's shows, dance and music, right in the heart of downtown Auburn.

History in the Making

The theater building itself is over 80 years-old, however, the first structure to occupy the property over 100 years ago was a carriage house for horses. When the automobile replaced horses as the major mode of transportation, the building was entirely reconstructed as the city's bus depot. New owners converted it to a movie house in the 1940s and continued operating it as such until the mid-70s, when it underwent yet another conversion, this time as a performing arts theater venue. Since then, The Auburn Avenue Theater has presented 27 seasons of dinner theater, the last of its kind in Western Washington. For information about the Auburn Avenue Theater, please contact Jim Kleinbeck, Theater Operations Specialist, at 253-833-5678.
