Register Your Neighborhood Event Now for Auburn's National Night Out on

Tuesday, August 5 is Auburn's Night Out Against Crime!

National Night Out Banner

National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. National Night Out takes place on Tuesday, Aug. 5.

Holding an event is simple! To register an event in your neighborhood, go to the City’s website at www.auburnwa.gov/NNO to register your event online. Registration deadline is July 31. Early registration will increase your chances of receiving a banner and other materials.

National Night Out has proven to be an effective, inexpensive and enjoyable program to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships in our fight for a safer nation. Plus, the benefits your community will derive from National Night Out will most certainly extend well beyond the one night.

On Tuesday evening, Aug. 5, residents in neighborhoods throughout of Auburn and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on the outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors, police, City of Auburn staff and elected officials. Along with the traditional outside lights and front porch vigils, most US cities and towns will celebrate National Night Out with a variety of special events such as block parties, cookouts, parades, festivals, potlucks, safety fairs, and youth events.

Last year we had 60 neighborhoods and over 7,500 people in the city of Auburn participate. Here are comments from a few of them:

“Our homeowners really enjoy getting together for our annual BBQ and potluck event, and it gives us all an opportunity to meet and discuss our community concerns with our city officials and all of the great people that keep us safe.”

“We thoroughly enjoyed preparing and hosting the National Night Out event. We were able to meet and get acquainted with some of our neighbors on our street whom we did not know before this past Tuesday evening. It was just an awesome evening at our home.”

“One thing we did realize is how very important it is to meet as a group at least once a year to share information that we did not know about our neighborhood and to set up different precautions to prevent further problems. This was very good for our group. We will definitely do this again next year and look forward to it.”

We want to make sure every neighborhood, apartment complex, and mobile home park is a part of the event this year. In fact, we’re providing everything we can to make planning and holding your event as easy as possible. The City of Auburn will provide postcards, flyers, and bookmarks free of charge to help promote your event. We will also have a large banner available to borrow the week leading up to and the evening of the event.

Just prior to the event you will be able to pick up balloons, resource materials and fun freebies from the City of Auburn and this year’s National Night Out sponsor, Lowe’s Home Improvement. We also work with local mascots to arrange visits to communities with a large number of children. Finally, we try our best to schedule police officers, City of Auburn staff and elected officials to visit all registered National Night Out locations.
