AUBURN, Wash. - May 20, 2012 - Springtime means another show with the Auburn Community Players! This go around features the musical stylings of Footloose, favorite of stage and screen. Show dates are June 1, 2, 8, and 9 at 7:30 p.m. and June 3 and 9 at 2 p.m. at the Auburn Avenue Theater. Grab your tickets early and support your friends and neighbors!

The story follows Ren, an ordinary kid from Chicago, as he’s forced to move to a small town with his mother after his father abandons them. An avid dancer, Ren is dumbstruck by the towns laws against cutting loose and trouble seems to find him at every turn. But when the local kids find relief in Ren’s fancy footwork, will they be able to change not just the town’s beliefs, but the law as well?

Based on the original classic film starring Kevin Bacon, this Broadway show burst onto the scene in 1998, 14 years after the original films release. The show played both Broadway and London, with national tours in both countries, winning the Tony Awards for best Book of a Musical, Original Score, and Best Choreography. The film received an update and remake in 2011.

The Auburn Community Players comprise of local, volunteer actors from the community.  They produce two musicals a year, rehearsing and building sets and costumes in their spare time. To audition or volunteer, visit the ACP Facebook page or contact the Auburn Parks Department.

The Auburn Avenue Theater hosts a variety of music, dance, comedy, films, and theater performances for all ages throughout the year. For a full listing of upcoming shows and to order tickets, please visit www.auburnwa.gov/arts.
