Community Visioning Open House Set for May 21

The “Imagine Auburn” visioning effort kicked off earlier this year as an initial step in renewing the City’s outdated Comprehensive Plan. The City launched the community process to solicit feedback about Auburn’s preferred future from a broad range of residents and stakeholders.

To date, community members have provided ideas about how to manage growth and change in Auburn through social media, telephone and in-person interviews, committee meetings, and seven community workshops held in neighborhoods throughout the City. The City received over 500 responses to its web-based visioning questionnaire. Participants have weighed in on topics such as neighborhood character; the Downtown environment; economic opportunities; streets and conditions for walking, biking and driving; community facilities, open space and trails; and more.

During a “Vision” Open House on Wednesday, May 21 from 6:30 – 8:00 pm at the Auburn Golf Course Banquet Room (29630 Green River Rd SE), the City Council and Mayor Nancy Backus will share key elements of a vision for Auburn that have emerged from this process. The Open House will provide an opportunity to discuss themes for the City’s future, and electronic polling of community opinion will assist in gauging priorities. Those who are unable to attend the meeting in person can participate online via live webcast. A link to the webcast will be available at: www.auburnwa.gov/imagineauburn.

With participation representing a full spectrum of interests, the City aims to create a clear vision that will serve as a basis for strategic decision-making and achieve the desired future for the community. The vision will inform the update of the 20-year horizon Auburn Comprehensive Plan scheduled to begin later this year.

How to Stay Informed

A summary Vision report will be available online for public review in June. Visit the Imagine Auburn web page on the City’s website. Residents can also stay informed and participate via the City’s Facebook (www.facebook.com/auburnwa) and Twitter (@auburnupdates) feeds by using the hashtag #ImagineAuburn.
