Auburn Residents Now Top 20 in the Nation for Prescription Drug Savings through NLC Program

In 2009, the City of Auburn began participating in the National League of Cities (NLC) Prescription Discount Card Program (via Resolution No. 4464), a collaborative program with CVS Caremark to offer a prescription drug discount card to Auburn’s residents. Since then, this FREE program has saved Auburn residents over $97,000 and now has almost 3,000 users. Auburn is one of the top 20 cities in the nation in savings to residents according the latest NLC report.

The card provides a discount that can offer a savings of up to 20 percent off the retail price of most prescription drugs. There is no enrollment or membership fee or restrictions based on age, existing health coverage or income level. The card can be used a participating pharmacies by residents and their families for prescriptions that are not covered by insurance.

Any Auburn resident can have and use the card. Here’s how: 

  • Go to www.caremark.com/nlc and select “Print Card Now” and follow the easy steps 
  • Pick up a card at the following City facilities: 
    • City Hall (25 West Main St.) 
    • Auburn Customer Service Center (1 E. Main St., second floor) 
    • Auburn Senior Activity Center (808 Ninth St. SE)

Most major retail pharmacy chains such as Walgreens, CVS, Wal-Mart and Rite Aid accept the prescription discount card. Residents just need to show their card when purchasing medication at a participating pharmacy. The Prescription Discount Card is easy to use and can be used any time your prescription is not covered by insurance. The program includes:

  • 9 out of 10 pharmacies accept the card
