Red Cross Emergency Shelter Operations Training Offered in Auburn

The City of Auburn, in conjunction with the American Red Cross, is offering emergency shelter operations training. This training is designed to prepare community volunteers to assist with running emergency shelters during disasters. The class will be held Saturday, Feb. 16 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Emergency Operations Center at 1 E Main St; Suite 380.

Shelter Operations training prepares volunteers to effectively and sensitively manage shelter operations as a team while meeting the needs of people displaced as a result of a disaster. The course provides participants with an opportunity to apply the knowledge, skills and abilities required to operate a successful shelter by including a hands-on shelter simulation at the end of the class.

Those who finish the training will have the opportunity to become City of Auburn or American Red Cross disaster volunteers.

To register for the class, contact City of Auburn Emergency Management at 253-876-1925. Class size is limited.
