Auburn's Downtown Sculpture Gallery Nears Completion

Popping up throughout Auburn's downtown are pedestals that will soon house works of art for all to enjoy. November 2012 will initiate the City’s first Outdoor Sculpture Gallery which once completed will house seven sculptures by artists Lin Rebolini McJunkin, Nicky Falkenhayn, Kris Vermeer, Kenneth Hall, Dan Klennert, Leo E. Osborn, and Mark Stevenson. The sculptures vary in size, type and medium and were selected by a committee that included Arts Commission members, artists, and downtown business representatives.

A series of art walks, public programs and publicity brochures are being planned to provide additional information about each artwork as well as offer another great activity in Auburn’s central core. Primarily located along Main street, the sculpture gallery, will rotate annually providing different artwork for Auburn residents to experience.

"We are thrilled to be able to initiate a rotating outdoor sculpture gallery" notes Arts Commission Chair Greg Watson. "The possibilities are tremendous for us and for artists who want to have their work seen by thousands more people."

Once installed, a people's choice competition will be initiated which will allow for residents and visitors alike to cast a vote for a favorite work of art which will be purchased to become part of the City’s permanent Public Art collection. This project is funded through Local Revitalization Financing funding received from the State of Washington and 4Culture Sustainable Support grant funds.
