Auburn’s Summer Sounds & Cinema Announces Event Line-Up

Summer SoundsThe Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation Department is excited to announce the Summer Sounds & Cinema Series 2015 line-up. The combination of entertainment and movies will ensure these Friday nights in Auburn are blockbuster evenings. New this year is three concert and movie events!

The first event will be held at the relatively new Lea Hill Park, 31693 124th Ave SE on Friday, July 31 at 7:00pm. Entertainment will be provided by the Po’okela Street Band, a uniquely fused Jamaican reggae and Hawaiian style music.  The band has evolved musically and now plays a high-energy pop reggae fusion of Top 40 hits. The 90-minute concert will be followed by a screening of Big Hero 6 (PG), an action-packed comedy adventure about the special bond that develops between Baymax, a plus-sized inflatable robot and prodigy, Hiro Hamada, who team up with a group of friends to form a band of high-tech heroes.  The City of Auburn will also be offering inflatable rides.  Featured at the event is an ArtRageous hands-on art activity, led by artist Yon LeMieux, who’ll be leading participants in a water bottle lantern project.  Auburn’s King Solomon Lodge will be providing free Child ID kits, while Veritas Church will be offering face painting and an inflatable ride. 

The next event is held at Sunset Park, 1420 69th Street SE on Friday, August 7 at 7:00pm, with entertainment provided Social Network, Seattle’s premier cover band, playing the most current chart-topping music.  Following the 90-minute concert is a screening of Frozen (PG), the special ‘sing-a-long’ version.  Sing out loud with your family, friends and neighbors as Princess Anna teams up with a mountain man, a playful reindeer and a cheery snowman to fix Queen Elsa’s ice curse. The City of Auburn will also be offering inflatable rides. Featured at the event is an ArtRageous hands-on art activity, led by artist Petra Winnwalker, who will be leading participants in a bead project. 

On Friday, August 14, the final concert and movie of the season will be held at Les Gove Park, 910 Ninth Street SE. Entertainment will begin at 7:00pm and will be provided by local favorite, The Fabulous Murphtones. The movie, Planes Fire & Rescue (PG), will be shown on an inflatable, 50-foot movie screen at dusk. This high-flyin’ Disney action flic features Dusty, a crop-duster plane, who joins a forest fire & rescue unit and trains as a fire fighter. Featured at the event is an ArtRageous hands-on art activity, led by artist Yon LeMieux, who’ll be leading participants in a Tin Can Robot project.

Food concessions, operated by the Auburn Youth Council, will be available at the events for a nominal fee. Patrons are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets for a refreshing evening under the stars!
