Glimcher Realty Trust Announces SuperMall Expansion and Rebranding

AUBURN, Wash. - May 30, 2012 – The City of Auburn is celebrating the recently announced decision by Glimcher Realty Trust, owner of the Supermall of the Great Northwest, to invest up to $35 million to renovate and rebrand the approximately 2 million square foot regional mall. At the May 29, 2012 meeting of the City Council’s Planning and Community Development Committee, Greg Fleser, General Manager for the SuperMall, briefed the Committee on Glimcher’s plans. Fleser announced that the week before Glimcher unveiled The Outlet CollectionTM brand at the International Council of Shopping Center’s Global Retail Real Estate Convention in Las Vegas.

The SuperMall of the Great Northwest is one of the first two Glimcher properties being rebranded and renovated under The Outlet CollectionTM brand. The Supermall will be renamed The Outlet Collection|Seattle and will become a pure outlet center that is intended to signify an upscale, premium collection of quality outlet retailers. Renovation efforts will upgrade interior and exterior features of the mall including new flooring, interior rails, light fixtures, new concourse furniture, four star family restrooms and a new dining emporium with authentic dining options.

The dining emporium will replace the current mall food court that will also be moved to help improve the overall walkability of the mall for customers and visitors. Fleser said that while the new name has Seattle in it, this is a marketing effort to help increase the mall’s visibility as a regional tourist attraction and that the mall and Glimcher remain firmly committed to being an Auburn business and a contributing member of the Auburn community. Renovation work is expected to start later this year.

“On behalf of the Auburn City Council and the citizens of Auburn, I congratulate Glimcher Realty Trust on this exciting new investment in an important member of the Auburn business community.” said Mayor Pete Lewis. “For over 17 years, we have enjoyed and appreciated the retail benefits of the mall and its support of the Auburn community. The scale of this investment during challenging economic times is a testament to the value of doing business in the City of Auburn. We look forward to working with the Glimcher team during its renovation efforts. We believe much like Glimcher that these renovations will make the mall even more of a regional tourist attraction bringing additional visitors and sales tax dollars to the Auburn community.”
