Auburn to host Jr. Tanoa Showcase Memorial Day Weekend

Some of the best 7th/8th grade football players from Washington, Arizona and California will compete in the Jr. Tanoa Showcase to be held at Auburn Memorial Stadium May 25-26, Memorial Day Weekend.

Auburn Mayor Pete Lewis will toss the coin for the opening game on Saturday. “We’re very proud to host these young athletes in our city,” said Lewis. "It's a great family event."

Other dignitaries attending include Brandon Huffman of ScoutFoxSports.com who’ll be watching the talent. Several Tanoa alumni will also be on hand, including Danny Shelton and Cory Fuavai of the University of Washington, Desmond Thompson who signed a Letter of Intent to Portland State University and Domenic Rockey who is scheduled to attend Washington State University.

“These kids have worked hard to get here, not only physically, but also mentally and academically," said Simi Strickland, Coach and Director of the Jr. Tanoa Showcase. "The Jr. Tanoa Showcase is for some, the eight year culmination of learning both on and off the field; while for others, it's a chance to go to the next level and learn from fellow athletes."

The lineup is as follows:

  • Saturday, May 25, 12 p.m. - Tri City Elite vs. San Francisco Warriors
  • Saturday, May 25, 3 p.m. - Washington Warriors vs. Arizona Matai Warriors
  • Sunday, May 26, 12 p.m. - Tri City Elite vs. Arizona
