Auburn Customers to Receive Service Credit for Disruption of Garbage Collection

Auburn Waste Management customers will see a service credit on their December bill thanks to a $225,300 settlement recently reached by the City of Auburn and Waste Management. The settlement compensates for Waste Management’s failure to make scheduled solid waste collections from July 25 - Aug. 1, 2012 due to an employee strike.

“Seattle, Kirkland and other cities have all received customer credit for the disruption of service when Waste Management employees went on strike,” said Mayor Pete Lewis. “Auburn customers now will receive their compensation.”

The City will deduct the $225,300 settlement from Waste Management’s Nov. 25, 2012 commission payment.

Residential customers will see a $10 credit on their December bill; commercial customers will receive a $50 credit. This credit will be applied to active solid waste accounts that were opened prior to Sept. 30, 2012. The remaining $20,000 of the settlement will go to the City to cover administrative costs that resulted from the service disruption.

The Auburn City Council approved the settlement at its Nov. 5, 2012 regular meeting.
