White River Valley MuseumThe Museum has its own website!
Located in Auburn’s Les Gove Park, the White River Valley Museum has been called the best community museum west of the Mississippi. Exhibits tell the story of the ordinary people of our area that have made some extraordinary history. Like the Muckleshoot leader Big John who in 1854 saw the first settlers come down Naches Pass, or Emma Hall a milliner who in 1924 owned the fanciest hat shop in Auburn, or Kisa Iseri a picture bride from Japan and Otto Bertsch who was simultaneously the highest ranking fellow in town, mayor AND Northern Pacific conductor. In award winning permanent displays the museum mixes diverse cultures in a lively, evocative way. People of the past come to life with a beautiful mix of diary excerpts, artifacts and photographs. Visitors are immersed in the past as they walk through a pioneer cabin, sit in a one-room schoolhouse, stroll along a 1920s street and climb aboard a caboose. Rotating exhibits change three times a year. In 2007 the schedule includes: Amazing Lace, A Delicate Construction, open February 7 through May 13; Abby Williams Hill, Victorian Landscape Painter, open May 30 to September 23; and The MIS, America’s Secret Military Intelligence Service open October 10 to January 20, 2008. 918 H Street SE
