John Woodard’s large scale self-portrait oil paintings are variations of an exploration of self. Beginning with a drawing done in front of a concave mirror, the mirror is held at a distance where the face is both partially in and out of focus. These works attempt to capture the out-of-focus quality and showcase the artists’ emotional and physical expressions.
