National Night Out

National Night Out Banner

The 29th Annual National Night Out (NNO), a unique crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW), has been scheduled for Tuesday, August 7, 2012. All neighborhoods are encouraged to be a part of AUBURN'S NIGHT OUT 2012 team.

Tuesday, August 7, residents in neighborhoods throughout the city of Auburn and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on the outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police.

Along with the traditional outside lights and front porch vigils, most cities and towns celebrate National Night Out with a variety of special citywide and neighborhood events such as block parties, cookouts, parades, festivals, visits from local officials and law enforcement, safety fairs, and youth events.

If desired, it may be possible to have a City representative make an appearance at your event to talk to attendees about fighting crime in their area.

ABOUT NATIONAL NIGHT OUT

National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

National Night Out has proven to be an effective, inexpensive and enjoyable program to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships in our fight for a safer nation. Plus, the benefits your community will derive from National Night Out will most certainly extend well beyond the one night.

The National Night Out 2011 event involved over 37 million people in 15,325 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide. National Night Out 2012 is expected to be the largest ever.
