Before Reporting for Jury Service

You may call our jury line at 253-931-3076 to confirm whether or not the trial is still on the docket.

Please note that we cannot excuse you on the day of the trial. Should you have an excuse or conflict, you will still need to appear and speak with the judge. Jury selection will last approximately one and a half hours.

If you have just received a jury subpoena and are unable to serve on jury duty, please call the jury line and leave your name, phone number, and the reason you are unable to attend. The jury clerk will return your call with further information.

All jurors are required to serve for jury duty as scheduled. If you are over 70 years old, or have special circumstances that prevent you from being able to serve as a juror, please call the jury line.

Reporting for Jury Service

When to Report

Jurors should report at 8:00 a.m. Please be prompt. One late juror can waste the time of the many persons involved in a trial. It is difficult to generalize when your service day will be completed, as each situation is different. Jurors are required to serve for the duration of a trial.

Where to go

Report to the Auburn Justice Center located at 340 East Main street. Check in at the front counter. You will be directed to a court room, usually court from 2. At this time, you will be instructed to sign in, and will be given an Identification Badge.

Identification Badges

Jurors will be issued Auburn Municipal Court Juror Identification Badges. Badges should be worn in plain view at all times (including lunch) during jury service.

Smoking

State law prohibits smoking in all City buildings. Smoking is permitted outside the entrance to the building.

What to Bring

Jury service can entail some waiting time, while you wait for assignment and/or between trials, so you may want to bring reading materials, hand sewing, crossword puzzles, stationary, etc. Please be prepared to provide your own lunch/meals, as meals will not be provided.
