AUBURN, Wash. – January 14, 2010 – The fine black and white photographs of Ann Quinn and Victoria Bjorklund are exhibited throughout the month of January at the Auburn City Hall Gallery. Both artists will be part of the opening reception and artist talk on Thursday, Jan. 14, 5:30 – 7 p.m.
Ann Quinn uses 30 year old cameras, traditional equipment and dark room processes to create striking imagery. Ann Quinn describes her process as “offering my cameral to the light – light from a flower, or as it enters a room or finds its way below the waterline to illuminate hard working places we seldom see.” On display is a series of portraits - portraits of flowers - that are each treated as individuals rather than a representation of the species.
Victoria Bjorklund is a photographic and book artist based in Tacoma, Washington. She is interested in both natural and urban landscapes and finds inspiration from writers and how they use words to describe the world around them. Victoria’s “Glass Figments” series juxtaposes urban window displays and its reflections creating an interesting narrative.
The Auburn City Hall Gallery is presented by the City of Auburn Arts Commission and Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation. For a 2010 Gallery Brochure or for information on other cultural arts programs, go to www.auburnwa.gov/arts or call 253-931-3043.
