AUBURN, Wash. – February 2, 2010 – This City Hall Gallery features the landscape oil painting of Arlon Rosenoff, still life paintings from Daphne Nixon and Helen Saunders' abstract paintings through Feb. 26, 2010.

Auburn artist Arlon Rosenoff depicts landscapes through thick oil paint applied with a palette knife. He uses this unique application method because it allows him the opportunity to interact with paint in a very tactile, expressionistic way. Arlon will be teaching a two-day workshop (Feb. 20 & 21) focusing on this application technique through the City’s Parks, Arts and Recreation department.

Daphne Wynne Nixon’s still life paintings are the epitome of realism with painstaking detail and elaborate compositions. She challenges herself as how to express all that she sees using a visual language. “If I can see it, I can paint it” is her motto. Daphne will be teaching a Oil Still Life class (March 10) through the City’s Parks, Arts and Recreation department.

Helen Saunders creates abstract paintings using a variety of acrylic mediums, ferns, yarn, stones, and old jewelry. Her style suggests a topographic view from above and is influenced by her passion of textured sculptural forms and flowing earthy colors.

The Auburn City Hall Gallery is presented by the City of Auburn and Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation. For a 2010 Gallery Brochure or for information on other cultural arts programs, go to www.auburnwa.gov/arts or call 253-931-3043.
