AUBURN, Wash. – August 6, 2010 – The Auburn Police Department in conjunction with local 7-Eleven stores has launched “Operation Chill” – a summer program to reward kids in Auburn that are caught doing something helpful or positive in their community.

Thanks to a program developed by 7-Eleven stores and in cooperation with local police, officers will reward observations of positive behavior exhibited by youth in the community with a ticket for a cool treat. The ticket can be redeemed at any participating 7-Eleven store for a free small Slurpee.

“The coupons are a great way for officers to contact youth in a positive, non-threatening manner. It helps to prove that being a good citizen does have its rewards and that positive behavior is noticed” says Bob Karnofski, Assistant Chief of Police.

Auburn officers will be patrolling the city trying to catch kids doing something helpful, deterring crime, following rules or participating in a positive activity in the community.

About 250 free Slurpee coupons will be issued during the summer months. Since the program’s inception in 1996, more than 10 million Operation Chill coupons have been distributed to hundreds of law enforcement agencies throughout the United States.
