Auburn Volunteers to Receive Presidential Service AwardsFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 16, 2010 Contact: Riley Relfe, Disaster Educator AUBURN, Wash. - April 16, 2010 - Ten Auburn volunteers will be honored for their volunteer contributions to the City of Auburn during the April 19 City Council Meeting that will be held at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall located at 25 West Main St. Auburn Mayor Pete Lewis is urging all citizens to join with him in honoring and recognizing the countless contributions volunteers of all ages have made in service of our community. According to Lewis “the spirit of volunteerism is an essential complement to our economy of limited resources, and much would be left undone were it not for generous volunteers giving unselfishly and generously of their time, talents and resources.” During the Council meeting, Mayor Lewis, along with the Auburn City Council, will proclaim the week of April 18-24 as National Volunteer Week. More than 100 City volunteers earned Presidential Volunteer Service Awards, contributing more than 36,000 hours of service to the City in the process. The President’s Volunteer Service Award is presented to volunteers who demonstrate commitment and inspire others to engage in volunteer service and is based upon the number of hours served by each individual. Volunteers from Auburn Emergency Management, Auburn Police Department, and Auburn Senior Center are being honored for hours served from April 1, 2009 to March 31, 2010 include:
