Businesses urged to submit worksheets for winter storm damage, Only Five Needed

CAMP MURRAY, Wash. – December 1, 2010 - Businesses that suffered an economic loss due to the recent winter weather are urged to submit economic injury worksheets to their county emergency management agency.

“The state only needs five of these worksheets to request a low-interest loan program for businesses from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA),” said Toney Raines, Human Services program manager at the Washington Emergency Management Division (EMD).

“This is a great program for businesses that suffered economic losses,” Raines said, “and businesses that had property destroyed or damaged by the recent winter weather.”

“The worksheets simply help establish that a business has sustained an economic injury,” he added. “It does not obligate a business to apply for an SBA loan.”

When the state believes it can certify sufficient damage, Raines said the governor will request the SBA to approve the program for the county or counties in which the disaster occurred, as well as contiguous counties.

Raines also pointed out that the official form for tallying storm losses—“Estimated Disaster Economic Injury Worksheet For Businesses”—can be downloaded here.

Completed worksheets should be submitted to county emergency management offices which will then forward them to the state emergency management division.
