FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 7, 2010

AUBURN, Wash. – August 7, 2010 – The City of Auburn is pleased to announce that Environmental Planner Jennifer Shih has earned the designation of Certified Sustainable Building Advisor (CSBA) awarded by the National Sustainable Building Advisor Program (NaSBAP). NaSBAP is a national non-profit organization that provides instruction in sustainable building principles and techniques.

To earn the certification, Shih completed a 9-month training program designed for working professionals through Seattle Central Community College, which is affiliated with NaSBAP. Upon completion of the training program, graduates are required to pass a certification exam which addresses sustainable building knowledge in eight subject areas, including: The Fundamentals of Sustainable Building, The Importance of Place, Energy and Lighting, Green Materials, Indoor Environmental Quality, Water Conservation and Quality, Sustainable Construction Management, and Sustainable Building Operations and Management.

Kevin Snyder, Director of the City’s Planning and Development Department stated, “We are very pleased in what this means for Jennifer, and what it means for the City customers and other City staff members she works with. With her certification, Jennifer has prepared herself to be able to better assist designers, architects, builders, operators, and utilities managers to identify and implement sustainable building systems such as LEED, Built Green, and other relevant sustainable building practices in their projects.”
