Fall Open House And Railroad Lecture at Auburn’s White River Valley MuseumFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 9, 2010 Contact: AUBURN, Wash. – September 9, 2010 - Join the White River Valley Museum for the Fall Open House & Railroad Lecture, October 2, 2010. Admission is $5 adults, $4 seniors/children and free to museum membership categories Train Master, Conductor and Engineer. The evening starts at 6:30 p.m. with an open house at the White River Valley Museum, where visitors can climb aboard a 1924 Northern Pacific Railroad caboose in the museum's permanent exhibit, "1920s Auburn." Other permanent exhibits include an 1850s pioneer cabin, hops farming and an 1890s Muckleshoot Indian canoe scene. Our first Saturday in October presentation will cover the Tacoma Division's North End. Kent Sullivan, Eastside amateur historian and Northern Pacific modeler will reveal his discoveries about the NP's all-important link to Canada, the Sumas Line, encompassing the route from Tacoma to Sumas on the border with British Columbia. This line, completed in the 1890s, included vestiges of the Seattle, Lake Shore and Eastern, Seattle's upstart attempt to link itself by rail to the rest of the U.S. If time permits, Kent will also give a short presentation on the NP's line into Bellingham, a small port once served by four transcontinental railroads! ABOUT THE WHITE RIVER VALLEY MUSEUM The White River Valley Museum is the best local history museum in the state according to the 2007 Washington State Visitors Guide. The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. and is located at 918 H St. S.E. in Auburn. Regular admission is $2 adults, $1 seniors and children.
