King County Urges Citizens to Go Green for the Holidays

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 1, 2010

KING COUNTY - King County has launched its Green Holidays campaign to educate consumers on ways to cut waste, save energy and support the local economy this holiday season. King County Green Holidays offers ideas and solutions to lessen consumers’ impact on the planet during the holidays – while saving money, too.

In addition, the Green Holidays website offers creative examples of how to wrap gifts without the waste, recycle holiday lights, “green” decorating, properly recycle food scraps and cooking oil, and encourages residents to eat local for the holidays.

Festive doesn’t have to mean wasteful. Green can be your holiday color as well as your way of life. From Thanksgiving to New Year’s, Americans generate 25 percent more garbage, including wrapping paper, bows, ribbons, shopping bags and food waste.
