2012 Auburn Police Department Citizen's Academy Now Open for Registration

AUBURN, Wash. – December 14, 2011 - Auburn Police Department is pleased to announce that registration is now open for the 2012 Citizens Academy. Class begins on March 7, 2012, and attendance is free of charge, but registration is required as space is limited. If you have ever been curious regarding the workings of your police department, here is your opportunity to get an unvarnished look at the Auburn Police Department as well as direct, candid, first-hand information regarding this important function of the executive branch of your local government.

The 2012 Auburn Police Department Citizens Academy consists of eleven Wednesday evening class sessions from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. and one Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Class graduation will be on May 16. All classes will meet at the Auburn Police Department located at 340 East Main St.

Topics include the following: 

  • Department organization 
  • Patrol operations 
  • Procedural law regarding arrest, search, and seizure 
  • Traffic law and enforcement 
  • 911 dispatch center operations 
  • Law enforcement recruiting, hiring, and training 
  • Jail operations 
  • Investigations of: 
    • crimes against persons 
    • property crimes 
    • child abuse 
    • domestic violence 
    • internet crimes against children 
    • homicide 
    • narcotics crimes 
  • Vehicle pursuits 
  • Use of force, including TASER 
  • SWAT operations (including hostage negotiations) 
  • Civil disturbance response 
  • Internal affairs investigations 
  • K9 operations (general patrol and narcotics K9) 
  • Auburn Municipal Court 
  • Auburn PD Volunteer Program

The Citizens Academy is open to any Auburn citizen 18 years or older. Applications are available on the City of Auburn website. Interested persons can apply in one of three ways:

  • ONLINE (recommended) Fill out the online application now. It will be emailed directly to the Auburn Police Department
  • MAIL Download the application (PDF), fill out, print and mail to the address listed on the application.
  • IN PERSON Download the application (PDF) or stop by the Police Department to pick up an application, fill out, print and drop off at the Auburn Police Department located at the Auburn Justice Center during regular business hours.
