Auburn Parks Announces Petpalooza Dog Trot and Unleashed Pet Contest Winners

AUBURN, Wash. – May 27, 2011 - Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation is pleased to announce the winners of the 4th annual Dog Trot 3K/5K Fun Run and the ‘Unleashed’ Pet Contest, both held on Saturday, May 21 at Game Farm Park in conjunction with the Petpalooza festival. The event was hosted by the City of Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation and sponsored by Green River Veterinary Hospital & Laser Surgery, Sumner Vet Hospital, It’s A Dog’s World Training & Agility Center, Petco, Sterling Savings Bank, PetSmart, Fleet Feet of Bonney Lake and Primo Pet Care.

The fun run was an event for owners and their dogs, and served as a kick-off for Auburn’s Petpalooza festival. The race started and finished in Game Farm Park. Participants followed a 3 kilometer route (1.8 miles) or a 5 kilometer route (3.1 miles) that brought them through a neighborhood adjacent to the park and onto the White River Trail. Awards were distributed to the top participant in six age categories. Winners were announced from the stage at the Petpalooza event and were presented with gift bags loaded with dog related goodies and gift certificates. The winners of the 2011 Dog Trot Fun Run are:

3K Race: 

• Child (8 & under division): Kai Sorenson and Shilo (18:29) 
• Tween (9-12 division): Francis Morrow and Buck (18:51)
• Teen (13-19 division): Abigail Blake and Frank Sinatra (23:10) 
• Adult (20-35 division): Christina Banham and Sadie (19:20) 
• Adult I (36-54 division): Dan Opitz and Toby (14:25) 
• Adult (55+ division): David Sherman and Pako (12:10)

5K Race: 

• Tween (9-12 division): Bradley Davis and Roxie (40:07) 
• Teen (13-19 division): Andrea Davis and Cooper (37:11) 
• Adult (20-35 division): Robert Slack and Doja (20:16) 
• Adult I (36-54 division): Mark Casey and Casey (19:18) 
• Adult (55+ division): Eric Larson and Tyrone (24:15)

The ‘Unleashed’ Pet Contest is open to 20 participants per category. Participants need to register the morning of the event. The competition gets better and better each year. Following is a list of winners:

• Best Pooch Smooch: Mary Black and Hachi from Federal Way 
• Best Voice: Isis Caney and Minnow from Sammamish 
• Best Pet/Owner Look-a-Like: Fern Haynes and Dan from Graham 
• Smallest Dog: Gloria Hurst and Izzy from Clear Lake 
• Best Dressed Pet: Rachel Sandt and Dakota from Federal Way 
• Best Pet Trick (Adult): Judy Cowden and Tamisha from Federal Way 
• Best Pet Trick (Child): Marissa O’Quinn and Keelee from Gig Harbor
