City of Auburn Announces Results of Latest Citizen Survey
Contact: Pete Lewis, Mayor Key Findings Show Residents Generally Pleased With Quality of Life; Customer Service
AUBURN, Wash. – July 28, 2011 - The City of Auburn has contracted with Elway Research, Inc. to conduct and measure resident’s opinions and behaviors to determine their satisfaction with City services and the overall quality of life in Auburn. The baseline survey was conducted in 2005 and the current survey reflects follow up from the 2006-09 results.
According to the latest survey, quality of life indicators stayed generally positive with natural environment rated the highest aspect of quality of life while job and economic opportunities received the lowest ratings. A significant number of respondents like the small town atmosphere in the middle of a large metropolitan area.
General concerns about crime and safety continued to increase from previous years; however when asked if they felt safe in Auburn and in their neighborhood, 8 in 10 said yes.
Customer satisfaction has increased from 66% to 75% from the last survey. Those who had contact with City, 3 in 4 said they were generally satisfied with the result and the majority rated the City’s efforts to inform and involve citizens positively.
“To have these kinds of positive results in these times is huge,” said a proud Pete Lewis, Mayor of Auburn. “We are in a down time nationwide, yet we recorded improvements in nearly every category. That is amazing. This is a reflection of the hard work of our employees and elected officials each and every day.”
Highest grades were earned by police services, parks and recreation services and Internet access. Respondents indicated that improvements are most needed in street repair and conditions, and sidewalk conditions.
Elway Research, Inc. conducted the telephone interviews to a total of 500 heads of household residents from June 2-8, 2011. Residents were selected from listed households and were randomly selected using a database of residents with listed telephone numbers. All households selected had the criteria of the respondent being a current resident of Auburn and being a head of the household.
