City of Auburn Municipal Court Probation Department announces courses for driver improvement

AUBURN, Wash. – July 27, 2011 - Beginning in August, the Auburn Municipal Court Probation Department will be providing two courses designed to improve driving skills for local motorists. The first course, Alive at 25, is designed to address issues and behaviors consistent with driving practices of 15- to 24-year-old drivers. The second course, Defensive Driving, is specifically designed for older drivers.

The first Alive at 25 class is scheduled for Aug. 16 and the Defensive Driving course will begin at a later, yet to be scheduled, date.

Those who may wish to attend include those sanctioned by a court to complete a defensive driving course, those looking to improve their driving skills and anyone looking to reduce the cost of driver’s insurance as most insurance companies offer a discount for successful completion. Both courses are certified by the National Safety Council and completion of either class has been shown to reduce the number of traffic-related infractions.

Driving courses will be held at the Auburn Justice Center, Courtroom No. 2 located at 340 East Main St. in Auburn from 1-5 p.m. Advance registration with photo ID is required. Fee for the class is $75 payable with cash or money order only.

Doors will open by 12:30 p.m. for pre-registered participants to sign in and will start promptly at 1 p.m. No one will be admitted after the course has begun nor permitted to come and go once the class has started.
