AUBURN, Wash. - April 28, 2011 - Celebrate spring, family, friendship and renewal with Book-It All Over’s adaptation of The Secret Garden playing 2 p.m. Saturday, May 14 at the Auburn Avenue Theater. This is a great opportunity to see books come alive.

When spoiled Mary’s parents die of cholera, she must go live with her uncle at Misselthaite Manor in Yorkshire, England. Left mostly to her own devises, lonely and friendless, Mary chafes in her new situation until she discovers the key to an unkept garden and, with the aid of a local boy, learns how to make it grow. The newly-found key unlocks not only the garden, but Mary’s capacity to love and nurture.

The Secret Garden is part of Book-It Repertory Theatre’s educational wing, Book-It All Over. Dedicated to inspiring people of all ages to read, BIAO tours a diverse range of stories to schools, libraries, and community centers throughout Washington State. All of their programs are specifically designed to offer youth a positive and active experience with literature. BIAO brings books to vivid life on stage—literature becomes accessible, curriculum is enriched, students become passionate about reading, and art becomes an integral part of education.

Book-It Rep and BIAO utilize their patented Book-It Style, creating world-premiere adaptations f classic and contemporary literature for the stage, preserving the narrative text as it is spoken, not by a single “narrator” but as dialogue by the characters in the production. Performing books instead of plays allows the Book-It theatre experience to spark the audience’s interest in reading and to challenge the audience to participate by using their imaginations. More than 60 world-premiere adaptations of literature have been produced.

Auburn AVE Kids showcases local, regional and national acts and touring presentations with an emphasis on audiences ages four through 12 and their parents. We invite you to share these magnificent moments on stage where extraordinary things come to life, making Auburn AVE Kids More Than You Imagined!
