Garden Plots Still Available in City of Auburn Second Community GardenFor immediate release: May 6, 2011 Contact: James Westhusing, Teen Coordinator AUBURN, Wash. – May 6, 2011 - The City of Auburn is pleased to announce the addition of a second community garden for gardeners who want to plant and raise their own produce or flowers. The Garna Botting Jones Community Garden is located on 4th St. NE near the Auburn School District Administration Building and opened in April of this year. To reserve a spot in the new garden, application must be made to the Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation department. Plots are leased for $20 to Auburn residents and $25 to non-residents. Individuals may apply for up to two garden plots based on availability. Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation Department will process the applications, assign the plots, initially till the site and provide water access to the site. Gardeners are responsible for cultivating, weeding, fertilizing, watering and other care of their patches. The community garden will remain open until November. The new community garden was made possible by an agreement with the Garna Botting Jones family and the City of Auburn. The Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation Department encourages a chemical-free, green environment. In addition, community gardeners will be encouraged to donate any extra produce to the Auburn Food Bank. The Auburn Youth Council is volunteering to help gardeners harvest or deliver produce to the Auburn Food Bank. The other garden is located at 1030 8th St. NE.
