Registration Now Open for Preschool and Youth Programs in AuburnContact: Pam Gallion, Recreation Coordinator FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 4, 2011 AUBURN, Wash. – January 4, 2011 – The Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation department registration for youth, preschool and family programs is now open. Be sure to take advantage of the wide variety of family-friendly programs beginning in January. Beginning on Jan. 12, children aged 7-14 can find their inner artist in the Youth Drawing and Painting Class and learn skills in drawing, painting and sculpting while exploring a variety of media. Class will meet on Wednesdays through Jan. 26 from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Les Gove Multipurpose Building at Les Gove Park. Participants will need a 9 x 12 Sketchbook (25 pages or more), pencil/eraser, Sharpie Fine Point-Black pen, Elmer’s Glue, Watercolor Paint, and Paint Brush. The class fee is $60 City of Auburn Residents/$75 Non-residents. An additional $5 class fee payable to instructor at the first class. Dancers can join the fun in several fun and active Recital Dance Classes this winter. Recital classes are a 16-week commitment, January-May and will finish off with a grand recital on May 15. Classes are separated by Preschool (ages 3-5) or Youth (ages 6-12) and will begin in mid-January. Preschoolers (ages 3-5) have two classes to choose from and meet at the Les Gove Multipurpose Building:
Youth can choose from either ballet (ages 6-9) or jazz/hip hop (ages 8-12) and will meet at the Parks, Arts & Recreation Administration Building.
For all dance classes, the recital will be held Sunday, May 15, 3 p.m., at the Auburn Riverside High School Theater. Rehearsal and pictures will be Sunday morning prior to the recital. Costume fee is $45. The class fee for dance classes is $130 for City of Auburn residents and $163 non-residents. Lastly, parents can take advantage of Becoming a Love and Logic Parent®. Come learn how parenting can be fun and rewarding instead of stressful and chaotic. This class will provide practical tools and techniques that help parents achieve respectful, healthy relationships with their children and help them prepare their kids for the real world. Workbook included. Two classes will be held on Saturdays, Jan. 15 and 29 from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Hazelwood Elementary. Class fee is $35 City of Auburn Resident/$44 Non-resident; Couples fee $50 City of Auburn Resident/$63 Non-resident with an additional $10 supply fee payable to instructor at the first class. The instructor is an Auburn School District teacher.
