Triumph of the American Spirit - A 10-Year Commemoration of 9/11 Concert to be held in Auburn

AUBURN, Wash. - August 18, 2011 - Everyone is invited to The Triumph of the American Spirit, a tribute to South King County’s fire and police, in commemoration of the valiant efforts of first responders surrounding the events of 9/11. The program at the Auburn Performing Arts Center on Sept. 11 at 2:30 will honor the memory of those who gave their lives ten years ago and recognize the energy and commitment of those who safeguard our communities each day.

The free event will feature music by the Auburn Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Stewart Kershaw, and will include familiar works by Aaron Copland, John Williams’ Hymn to the Fallen from Saving Private Ryan, Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings, and as a tribute to New York City, music from Leonard Bernstein’s On the Town.

Maya Angelou’s Brave and Startling Truth and the poignant Playing for the Fighting 69th will highlight spoken presentations that will also include remarks by Auburn Mayor Pete Lewis, Al Church, President of the State Fire Chiefs, and John Batiste, Chief of the Washington State Patrol.

While admission to the event is free, and seating is not reserved, a ticket is required. Tickets can only be obtained in person at the City of Auburn Parks, Arts, and Recreation building, located at 910 9th St SE. There is a limit of six to a family.
