AUBURN, Wash. – February 23, 2011 - As part of earning his Eagle Scout badge, Alex Anthony, along with 12-15 volunteers will be planting 27 Kousa dogwood trees in the City's planting strips along both sides of Park AV located off of Auburn Way N near Veterans Memorial Park. (View map) The planting project will take place on Saturday, February 26 at 9 AM.

The trees will stretch the entire length of Park AV from Auburn Way N. to the entry way into Veterans Memorial Park The trees were purchased with a Neighborhood Grant and selected by the Auburn Tree Board to help beautify the street and create a tree lined boulevard into the park.

The Satomi variety of Kousa Dogwood has a soft pink flower blooming in late May through the month of June and will offer a brilliant red fall color. The Kousa Dogwood trees are also known for their resistance to diseases and insects.

If you would be interested in seeing your neighborhood be part of the next neighborhood tree planting project, please contact Mike Miller, Park Maintenance Manager at 253-931-3027.
