FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 27, 2011

More than 3,000 Participants Expected at Auburn’s Marching Band Championships and Parade

10-Veterans Day-a 082AUBURN, Wash. – October 27, 2011 - Auburn High School’s 25th annual Veterans Day Marching Band Championship will be held Saturday, Nov. 5 from 1 -10 p.m. at Auburn Memorial Stadium, across the street from Auburn Senior High School, hosted by the Auburn High School Band and Choir Parents. This event will feature the best in high school marching band music, precision (marching) and drill (formation) performances.

Over 30 of the finest high school marching bands from Washington, Oregon and Idaho will compete in this year’s Parade and Field Show Competition. According to Sue Hoffman and Teena Dwyer Bailie, Veterans’ Day Event Directors, Auburn’s Veterans’ Day Marching Band Championship is the largest, most prestigious and longest running marching band competition in the state. Many of the area’s marching band directors refer to Auburn’s competition as a championship where the best-of-the-best compete for top honors and cap off their marching band season in style.

Twenty-seven high school marching bands will appear in Auburn’s 46th annual Veterans Day Parade beginning at 11 a.m. along Main Street, which constitutes preliminary marching competition. Among those are bands from as far away as Clarkston, Wash., Spokane, Wash., Kennewick, Wash., Yakima, Washl, Grants Pass, Ore., and Burley, Idaho.

We are pleased to present a special guest performance by the Seattle Sounders FC Sound Wave drum corps at 5:30 p.m. Auburn Mayor Pete Lewis and his wife Kathy, Superintendent of the Auburn School District Dr. Kip Herren and Auburn High School Assistant Principal Darin Adams will present the awards following a full band retreat at 9:30 p.m. on the field.

Ticket prices for all day admission are: adults $14, students (ages 6-18) and senior citizens (62+) $10. Children under 5 are free. Proceeds from the marching band competition will benefit the band and choir programs at Auburn Senior High School. Gates open at 12 p.m. with the first performance starting at 1 p.m. Auburn’s choir parents will be operating two full service concession stands to satisfy your hunger during the competition. Handicap parking and seating is available at Auburn Memorial Stadium’s fully covered grandstand bleachers. Come rain or shine the show will go on as planned!
