b1112_notldAUBURN, Wash. - September 20, 2011 - Join us Halloween night at The Ave…if you dare! The 1968 original horror film Night of the Living Dead will be up on the big screen and we encourage you to wear your costume for the costume contest. The horror begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Auburn Avenue Theater, located at 10 Auburn Ave. Awards will go to Best Costume and Best Zombie.

On a typical trip to visit their father’s grave, Barbara and Johnny come face to face with “one of them.” Johnny is killed attempting to fight the ghoul off, sending Barbara fleeing to a nearby farmhouse. Stumbling upon the corpse of the homeowner, Barbara panics and attempts to flee the scene only to be rescued by Ben, who throws her back inside. In the basement they find five more people hiding from the carnage. But will any of them survive till morning?

Night of the Living Dead is a classic George A. Romero zombie movie. Filmed in black and white due to budgetary reasons, Romero was actually able to show more gore because of the coloring (Bosco chocolate syrup was used as blood). The film spawned five more films in the …of the Dead series and two remakes with a third in the works.

Of Night of the Living Dead, Roger Ebert said, “The kids in the audience were stunned. There was almost complete silence. The movie stopped being delightfully scary about halfway through, and had become unexpectedly terrifying.”

The City of Auburn BRAVO Performing Arts Series includes music, dance, comedy, film and theater performances for all ages throughout the year. We invite you to share all these magnificent moments on stage where extraordinary things come to life, making Auburns BRAVO Season More Than You Imagined!
