Auburn Officials Urge Citizens to Take Safety Precautions as Winter Weather Blast Passes ThroughAUBURN, Wash. – January 17, 2012 - The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory which will remain in effect until 4 PM PST this afternoon and a Winter Storm Warning in effect from midnight tonight to midnight PST Wednesday night for the Puget Sound area that could bring snow and icy conditions to our area. Auburn officials would like to remind citizens of some safety precautions and resources to be aware of and utilize during this event. Road Conditions and Closures The City of Auburn Streets Division will continue to have a minimum of four people working 12-hour shifts throughout the emergency event as required. Sanding, de-icing and plowing will continue with priorities being all steep hill areas, overpasses, bridges and major arterials at intersections where traffic needs to stop with an emphasis on keeping the major arterials open. It takes a minimum of 10 hours to complete one cycle. There are several resources for citizens that can assist road travel during inclement weather conditions. Officials encourage all drivers to avoid driving in these conditions unless absolutely necessary. Drivers can monitor Auburn road conditions on major streets here. The City operates 25 traffic cameras that are monitoring roads on the following major streets in Auburn:

Garbage Collection Delays If roads become too dangerous for driving, chances are your solid waste hauler will not be able to reach your home on your regularly scheduled pick up day. Severe Weather Shelter The City of Auburn in conjunction with the Auburn Food Bank will operate a cold weather shelter at the Veteran's Memorial Building in Veteran's Memorial Park, at 411 E ST NE. Dates and times of shelter operations can be found on the Real-Time Emergency Information page.
