Register Now For Youth Art, Youth Etiquette or Becoming a Love and Logic Parent® with Auburn ParksContact: Pam Gallion, Recreation Coordinator FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 12, 2012 AUBURN, Wash. – January 12, 2012 – The Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation department announces a collection of classes for youth and parents this winter. For youth, upcoming classes in art and etiquette will help start of the new year right and for parents the Love and Logic series continues and now will offer a refresher course for those who have completed the course, but would like to learn new techniques as well as refresh previously learned skills. The listing of class times, fees and information is below: Becoming a Love and Logic Parent® – Come learn how parenting can be fun and rewarding instead of stressful and chaotic. This class will provide practical tools and techniques that help parents achieve respectful, healthy relationships with their children and help them prepare their kids for the real world. Workbook included. Class meets Saturdays, Jan. 28 and February 4, 8:30a-4p at Hazelwood Elementary. Class fee is $46 City of Auburn Resident/$58 Non-resident; Couples fee $62 City of Auburn Resident/$78 Non-resident. Refresher of Becoming a Love and Logic Parent® For those parents who have already completed the Becoming a Love and Logic Parent®. Come meet other Love and Logic families and share your child rearing experiences. Get a refresher on techniques and learn some new ones. Class meets Saturday, February 11, 8:30a-4p, at Hazelwood Elementary. Class fee is $21 City of Auburn Resident/$27 Non-resident; Couples fee is $34 City of Auburn Resident/$43 Non-resident. The instructor is an Auburn School District teacher. Youth Creative Sculptures – Children, ages 7-12, will learn clay hand-building techniques. Students will learn the difference between modeling clay, air dry clay and oven fired clay while creating functional and decorative works of art. $10 additional art fee payable to instructor at the first class. Class meets Wednesdays, February 8-22, 5:15-7:15 p.m. at the Les Gove Park Multipurpose Building. The class fee is $62 City of Auburn Residents/$78 Non-residents. Mixed Media For Youth – For children ages 7-12 This class teaches students collage, drawing, painting and sculpture. Students will learn about famous artists while creating mixed media art. $10 additional art fee payable to instructor at the first class. Class meets Wednesdays, March 7-21, 5:15-7:15 p.m. at the Les Gove Park Multipurpose Building. The class fee is $62 City of Auburn Residents/$78 Non-residents. Young Ladies & Gentlemen – Children rarely beg for the opportunity to attend a class on manners, and yet it is the key to building positive friendships and strong self-esteem. This class for children ages 6-11 is a fun hands-on manners workshop teaches the art of introductions, hand shaking, conversation skills, basic table manners, telephone etiquette, personal care posture. Saturday, February 25, 9a-12p, at the Les Gove Park Building. The class fee is $36 City of Auburn Residents/$45 Non-residents. NEW! Young Ladies & Gentlemen II – This course is a natural follow-up to Young Ladies and Gentlemen, however Young Ladies & Gentlemen is not a pre-requisite. One of the first social settings that children encounter is being a guest. Learning how to be a gracious guest, guest of honor, or host, are skills they will use lifelong. Boys and girls will learn about invitations, being a great guest and host, practice meeting and greeting others, polite conversation, giving and receiving gifts, basic table manners while neatly eating birthday cake, and how to create their own thank you notes. Class meeets Saturday, February 25, 1-4 pm, at the Les Gove Park Building. The class fee is $36 City of Auburn Residents/$45 Non-residents.
