Auburn Parks, Recreation & Open Space Plan

What is a Parks Plan?

The complex puzzle of the Parks and Recreation Department property programs and people are demanding jobs. It is accomplished through the joint efforts of six Citizen boards, 47 permanent City staff members 47 seasonal workers, more than 100 part time or contract instructors coaches and recreation support staff, and more than 500 volunteers. Working together these groups help keep our parks well maintained and provide programs to meet the needs of Auburn residents.

The demand for neighborhood parks, trail systems and recreation programs and other opportunities continues to grow. Finding the needed financial resources has become a challenge, resulting in a search for new funding sources, new ways of developing parks and new partners to share the cost as well as deliver the services.

This Parks Plan, adopted in 2005, collects relative information on the community and assess its impact on recreation activity, assess the recreation and cultural needs in the auburn area, outlines development plan recommendations for improving existing parks and facilities, and outlines a funding strategy via a Parks Improvement Program and Capital Improvement Program.

Citizens of the City of Auburn are very proud of their parks and are eager participates in recreation activities as well as cultural events. We as staff are dedicated to improving our existing facilities as well as ensuring that the parks, arts and recreation needs are met in the years to come.
