Current planning: development review & code administration

The Current Planning function with the Department of Planning, Building and Community is responsible for review of development projects for consistency with land use regulations such as the zoning code, subdivision code, critical area regulations, the processing of land use applications, and the promulgation and administration of land use and environmental codes.

Development review involves considerable interaction with citizens and developers on a day-to-day basis at the front counter and at several points throughout the development permit. Review of development applications involves coordination with other city departments and frequently involves coordination and collaboration with other jurisdictions or agencies.

Code administration involves explaining land use and environmental regulations to the public, processing land use applications and processing amendments to the city’s development regulations and zoning map for the City Council’s consideration. Amendments to the city’s development regulations may result from Citizen requests or be initiated by the city, most often in response to changing County, State, or Federal policies and/or regulations. With the help of the public and the City of Auburn Planning Commission (appointed by the City Council), development regulations are prepared for City Council consideration and adoption.
