Human services and housing repairsWorking together with other service provides, the City of Auburn offers its residents a wide range of vital human services. Each year the City of Auburn's commitment to human services has grown. The City consistently allocates the maximum amount allowed of its Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to human services. It budgets approximately one percent of its general fund revenues for grants to human service agencies. The City of Auburn’s mission with regards to human services is to reduce the number of people who are living in poverty. Towards this end, the City provides funding to agencies that can assist members of the community who, for one reason or another, are in need – either temporarily or more long-term. The City of Auburn's "Consolidated Plan for Housing and Community Development" includes both the City's entitlement of CDBD funds and its general fund allocation to support human services in the community. The Consolidated Plan Annual Action Plan outlines the human service strategies the City is currently trying to accomplish. The City of Auburn also offers low-income city residents grants for emergency home repairs. These grants help Auburn's low-income homeowners preserve and stay in safe and affordable housing. Eligible, single-family homeowners must have lived in their current home for at least one year and meet the income requirement of the program. Information and application forms for Auburn's Housing Repair Program are available on line at the City's website. Although the City does not provide direct services, City staff can make referrals to local agencies that do.
