When you leave your partner it is important to understand that this can be an action that might trigger violence from your partner. Being organized and prepared to make a quick break away from the relationship is one key to reducing the risk of violence. If possible, it is recommended that you pre-pack clothing and important documents ahead of time and leave them with a trusted friend or relative.

Personal safety plan

A personal safety plan is one of the most important steps you can take to protect yourself and your children from a batterer. It prepares you in advance for the possibility of further violence and may increase both your children's and your own chance of surviving further violent episodes by your abuser.
