A/B Street NW Corridor Project

This project will extend A Street NW from 3rd Street NW to 14th Street NW. This will complete the 1.47 mile missing link that is part of the 3.5 mile A-B Street corridor, which begins at the Auburn Transit Station and terminates at S. 277th Street. The new roadway segment will consist of a new 3-lane and 5-lane road with sidewalks between 3rd Street NW and 14th Street NW. It will align with the existing A Street NW and B Street NW on its southern and northern termini, respectively. For additional information about the project, please contact Bill Helbig, at 253-288-3142 or via email.

M Street SE Grade Separation Project

This project will separate M Street SE from the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway's Stampede Pass line by lowering M Street SE and constructing a new Railroad Bridge between 4th Street SE and 6th Street SE. M Street will be widened to two lanes in each direction in this area. This project will also include new sidewalks and bicycle lanes. The project will also construct a new by-pass road that will connect M Street SE to Auburn Black Diamond Road and R Street SE. Design work has begun for this project and is expected to continue through late 2009 as the City works on obtaining additional funding. For more information on this project, please contact Jacob Sweeting P.E., Project Engineer at 253-804-5059 or via email. [Download project flyer] (PDF)

Citywide ITS

The Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) improvements allow signals on Auburn's arterial street network to be remotely controlled from a Traffic Management Center (TMC). This system enables the City to respond immediately to changes in traffic conditions caused by factors such as rush hour volume fluctuations, accidents, and special event traffic.

The ITS is already constructed and actively monitored on Auburn Way South (SR 164) from 2nd St SE to the southern city limits. The City is now in the process of designing Phase II of the ITS project, which includes installation of cameras and a fiber optic cable along South 277th Street and Auburn Way North that will connect to the fiber optic cable already installed on Auburn Way South.

In addition, the City system will be developed to allow the public, via King County's and WSDOT's public access traffic websites, to directly access the City of Auburn's traffic camera information.

The project has thus far been funded by the City, King County, the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe, and a federal grant. The City is seeking the remaining funding necessary to complete construction of improvements on Auburn Way North and South 277th Street. For more information, please contact Traffic Operations Engineer at 253-804-5068 or via email.

R Street SE Utility Improvements

This project will construct storm drainage, sanitary sewer, and water system improvements along the following roadways: 21st Street SE, K to R Streets SE; R Street SE, 21st to 25th Streets SE; M Street SE, 17th to 21st Streets SE; and 17th Street SE, M to O Street SE. For more information, please contact Robert Lee III at 253-804-5071 or via email. [Download project flyer] (PDF)

Auburn Way South Sanitary Sewer Improvements, Phase 2

This project is currently under construction. For more information, please contact Chris Thorn at 253-804-5065 or via email.
