Public Works Engineering and Technical Internship ProgramThe City of Auburn now has an Engineering and Technical Intern Program in its Public Works Department. The purpose of the internship program is to reach out to those qualified college engineering juniors that would like to spend the summer months with Auburn's Public Works staff assisting to plan, design and manage the construction of new infrastructure. The Public Works Internship Program has been established for junior or senior level students in good standing working toward a degree in civil engineering. We have two types of internships to choose from and three available opportunities: Utilities Engineering InternThis is a temporary position providing engineering support to the Utilities Section of the Public Works Department. Duties will be varied, but may include the preparation and review of plans and technical documents, field investigations and documentation, technical research, engineering collaboration, and an assortment of computer applications relating to the City's water, sanitary sewer, and storm drainage utilities. Transportation Engineering Intern PositionThis is a temporary position providing engineering support to the Transportation Section of the Public Works Department. Duties will be varied, but may include the preparation and review of plans and technical documents, field investigations and documentation, technical research, engineering collaboration, and an assortment of computer applications relating to the City's street system. The Engineering internship opportunities are full-time positions under the supervision and direction of a professional civil engineer. Must have excellent analytical and deductive reasoning skills and use judgment in determining the most appropriate methods and procedures to complete assignments. The Internship positions are designed to improve engineering skills and expose students to a wide and diverse array of municipal engineering activities. Participation in Auburn's engineering internship program is also intended to enhance student's ability to compete for a full-time engineering position with the City upon graduation.
