Pea patches are to be used for recreational gardening and for growing vegetables and flowers for family use. Produce and/or flowers are not to be sold.
Pea patches are 400 square feet. There is an initial limit of two pea patches per individual or group. The cost of the pea patches is $25 city of auburn resident fee per pea patch and $30 for non-residents. There will be no refunds. Pea patch leases terminate October 14, 2007.
Returning gardeners are allowed to retain their 2006 site if application is received by March 10, 2007. Other applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Pea patch assignment packets are mailed out about one week prior to the opening date. Weather permitting, the pea patches are open on Saturday, April 14, 2007.
The City will process the applications, assign the pea patches, initially rototill the land, provide water to the site, and work with the King County Extension Service to provide gardener information.
Pea patchers are responsible for cultivating, weeding, fertilizing, watering, and other care of their pea patches. At the end of the growing season, pea patchers are to clear their pea patches to allow for the Fall rototilling. Wire, plastic, tin cans, glass, tires, etc. should be completely removed by the gardeners before the October 14th closing date.
Pea patchers have one month from the opening date to begin work on their pea patches. After that date unworked pea patches are subject to reassignment by the pea patch coordinator. For more information on unworked pea patches, please call the pea patch coordinator at 253-931-3043.
Hoses and sprinklers are allowed at the pea patch sites. You will need to stay at the site while watering. Senior citizens and physically disabled people are assigned pea patches closer to water outlets.
The Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation Department cannot guarantee against vandalism or theft. Pea patchers who observe vandalism or theft should call 911 as soon as possible and notify the Parks Department the next working day.
No motorized vehicles or equipment are allowed in the pea patches except small rototillers.
Parking is provided adjacent to the pea patch area. Parking is not permitted in the Metro Transit Park and Ride lot. A portable toilet facility is provided adjacent to the Pea Patch entrance.
No dogs or other animals are allowed in the pea patches.
Pea patchers agree to the Hold Harmless Agreement and to abide by the guidelines of the program when they apply and sign and date the application.
Residency Designation: In order to qualify for a city of auburn resident fee, you must live or own property within the incorporated limits of the city of Auburn. An Auburn mailing address does not necessarily qualify an individual as an Auburn resident. The Auburn zip code covers areas on the west and east hills of Auburn that are not within the city limits.
