Missed Collections

Call Waste Management directly at 1-800-592-9995 within 24 hours to request a Courtesy Return Trip. Missed collections due to locked gates/enclosures/customer's own lock on container(s) is not considered a missed collection and will incur a Return Trip Fee (see Solid Waste Rates link below for fees). 


Garbage

If you have a property within the City of Auburn's Waste Management garbage service area, you are required to have City Garbage service. The charges/fees set by the City shall be applied whether or not the service is utilized. All occupied units are required to have minimum or adequate service.

Containers & Rates

Solid Waste Rates (PDF) vary depending on container size and pick up frequency. The smaller your container size, the less you pay. Many different (green) container sizes are available for your property's needs. Container sizes include:

  • 10 gallon can (grey can with lid)
  • 20 gallon cart (35 gallon cart with black insert)
  • 35 gallon cart
  • 64 gallon cart
  • 96 gallon cart
  • 1 YD - 8 YD containers (dumpster); 1 - 4 YD available with wheels
  • 20 YD, 30 YD or 40 YD roll-off containers
  • Locks from Waste Management available at no additional cost for dumpsters

Materials Accepted

Household hazardous waste can be disposed of for FREE at the King County Wastemobilelinks to external site, open every Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Pickup Schedule

The City's contracted hauler, Waste Management, shall collect, remove and dispose of all solid waste from multifamily residences in the city at least once each week. Call Waste Management directly to determine your collection day. Garbage must be set out for collection by 7:00 AM on collection day.

Extra Garbage Pickups

Extra garbage set out for collection above your normal service level will incur extra garbage charges (see garbage rates above for charges). To schedule additional pickups the property manager or owner must call the City of Auburn Utilities Department at 253-931-3038.

If the amount of garbage you generate exceeds your current container, consider increasing your service level or consider utilizing the no additional cost City Recycling Program. See examples on how to right size your container. (PDF)

Recycling

Multifamily properties may choose to, but are not required to utilize City contracted Waste Management recycling services. Property owners must authorize all recycle program set-ups.

FREE site visits to access waste reduction and recycling needs, tenant recycling tote bags, guidelines, and training are available to help your recycling program be successful. To set up an appointment or if you have questions call 1-800-592-9995 or email Waste Management.

Containers & Rates

As a part of basic Waste Management garbage collection services, recycling is no additional cost. Individual containers (per tenant) are available for properties with 4 units or less and mobile home parks. Properties with more than 4 units must place containers in a central location(s) for collection.

Many different (blue) container sizes are available for your property's needs. Container sizes include:

  • 35 gallon cart
  • 64 gallon cart
  • 96 gallon cart
  • 1 YD - 8 YD containers (dumpster); 1 - 4 YD sizes available w/wheels

Contaminated recycling containers (items not allowed in recycling) may not be picked up. Waste Management dispatch will contact the property owner, who will have the option to clean out contamination or pay to have it emptied as garbage.

Pickup Schedule

Call Waste Management directly to determine your collection day at 1-800-592-9995.

Extra Recycling Pickups

Any additional recycling is collected at no cost if on the regular collection day. To schedule additional pickups the property owners or managers must call the Waste Management Customer Service office at 1-800-592-9995. Recycling must be set out for collection by 7:00 AM on collection day.

Extra recycling must be labeled "Recycle". Put recycling in a box (2' x 2' x 2' limit) or 32-gallon can (65 lb. limit) and place next to the blue recycle container.

Compostables (food, food-soiled paper & yard waste)

City Code 8.08.120 prohibits yard waste from being mixed with garbage. Garbage containers containing yard waste and garbage mixed together will not be picked up.

Containers & Rates

Compostables service is available on a subscription basis. Compostables restart fee - If compostables service is canceled and restarted within 7 months a restart fee of $25.00 will be charged. When you sign up for yard waste service the City supplies a (grey) cart. Container sizes available include:

  • 35-gallon cart
  • 64-gallon cart 
  • 96-gallon cart 
  • 1-yard container (dumpster)
  • 2-yard container (dumpster)
  • Cart cleaning / deodorizing - Waste Management will clean and deodorize your compostables container for a fee of $15.00 per container. Please call 253-931-3038 to request this service.

Materials Accepted

Includes organic material from your yard, (leaves, grass, and branches under 3 inches in diameter by 3 feet long), and shredded paper (in paper bag). Compostables collection also includes food scraps and food-soiled paper. No sod, dirt, rocks, concrete, lumber or plastic bags.

Pick Up Schedule

Compostables are collected weekly. When you sign up for compostables service, your collection day will vary according to your location. Call Waste Management at 1-800-592-9995 to determine your collection. Compostables must be set out for collection by 7:00 AM on collection day.

Extra Yard Waste Pickups

There is an additional charge for each extra unit of yard debris. An extra 32-gallon yard debris can/bag/box is $3.32 each, extra 1-yard dumpster is $34.31 and 2-yard dumpsters is $57.42.

Extra yard waste must be labeled "Yard Waste". Put yard waste in your own containers (32-gallon, 65 lb. limit), heavy paper bags, or bundles (4' by 2' limit) and place next to the gray compostables cart at least three feet from your garbage. PLEASE:  NO food Scraps, food-solid paper or plastic bags in extra yard waste bags, boxes or cans.
