How to Apply for an Artist Grant - Artist Trust Workshop
Writing a grant can be hard, and we want to help you. Join Artist Trust’s artist liaison Katy Hannigan for an info session where you’ll learn about funding opportunities, the ins and outs of applying for grants, and tips that will make your next application stand out. This workshop is presented in partnership with Artist Trust.

Encaustic: Painting with Wax
Encaustic painting (pigmented bees wax) is one of the oldest forms of paint. In this half day workshop we will explore several techniques that can be used by beginners and those with a bit of experience. At the end of the day,  all students should go home with a finished piece! All materials will be provided by instructor.

Traditional Chinese Painting NEW!

Learn the beautiful art of traditional Chinese painting! This course will introduce basic knowledge, appreciation, and practice of Chinese Traditional Painting (GuoHua) through hands-on learning experiences. The workshop focuses on the techniques of XieYi (freehand style/writing of meaning) through painting the Plum Blossom. Illustrative and teaching materials will be provided by the presenter. Enrollee will provide their own supplies: Chinese brushes (3 sizes), XuanZhi (rice paper), Chinese black ink, and Chinese colors. Materials can be purchased at the Daniel Smith Store or ordered online at: awesomeartsupply.com

“Meet the Artist” Relief Printing NEW!
Meet and work alongside the talented print artist Christopher Hartshorne whose dynamic work will be featured in Auburn’s Art on Main window-front gallery! Relief printmaking is the process by which an image is transferred in ink from a block to a sheet of  paper. Students taking the printmaking workshop will carve small blocks and then print them while exploring color, texture, and layering making individual prints as well as a large collaborative print banner. All materials for this class will be provided.

Garden Mosaics NEW!
Create vibrant, colorful mosaic art for the garden! This class will cover the basics for exterior and garden mosaics. Lecture will include information on substrates appropriate for exterior use and their preparation, fixatives, setting, grouting and sealing. This class is great for the beginner as we will be covering tools, cutting techniques, and mosaic design, and is also appropriate for the student who has already experimented with interior or craft mosaics and would like to expand their knowledge to include exterior, garden or permanent installations. Students will create a mosaic garden ornament using glass tiles on a stepping stone. Students must pay a $15 materials fee directly to the artist at the start of the first class.

Mixed Media: Inspired by Robert Rauschenberg NEW!
Mixed media is a fun and exciting way to express yourself! Inspired by the experimental and unique works of legendary mixed-media artist Robert Rauschenberg, come and learn new techniques that combine diverse media like collage, photographic image layering, sculptural painting, and fusion of 2-D and 3-D surfaces in the ever-expanding art of mixed media. Students  are encouraged to bring photos, small objects, postcards, or other materials they might want to integrate into their mixed-media works.

Drawing Without an Eraser NEW!
Unlock your inner artist! For the beginner, expert, and anyone looking for a new way of viewing your world or finding your creative self.  On these beautiful summer evenings, this is an opportunity to get outside, unleash your creativity, and find the magic of the simple pencil! The class will cover: drawing processes including seeing versus knowing, shape consciousness, illusion of light, depth, texture, and study of proportions. You will create: still life, landscape/seascape, figure drawing, free drawing and “invisible” drawings. Students are asked to purchase and bring 9”x12” drawing paper, newsprint, and No. 2 pencils.

“Meet the Artist” Pinhole Camera Photography NEW!
Meet and work with the talented artist Zachary Burns as he teaches students how to make unique photographic images! This class will explore analog photography through building the simplest type of camera, a pinhole camera, and learning one of the oldest methods of printing, the cyanotype. You will learn the principles behind how cameras work, build a camera out of common household materials, and print images from your camera as photographic blueprints called cyanotypes. All materials will be provided for this class.
