Take a mid-week break this spring with your family and get out in your local parks!  Every Wednesday, join your neighbors for a family walking club at different parks to explore a new area!  Healthy snacks will be provided.  No registration required, just show up!

Join the Family Adventure Series in outdoor pursuits!  Trips and activities are geared toward families of all ages.  Try something new, go somewhere new, or just get outside with your family!  Check activity details for age specifications.

Family Whale Watch: It’s whale season!  Board the Island Explorer in search of Gray whales in the feeding grounds around Whidbey Island.  This area is also a playground for Harbor Seals, Sea Lions and porpoise.  Keep your eyes out for Bald Eagles and Osprey; there is much wildlife to be found on this three-hour tour!  Bring a sack lunch or cash for onboard concessions.  There is an indoor cabin but expect to spend some time outdoors on the boat deck; dress for the weather.  Saturday, April 29, 8:00 AM- 3:00 PM. $54/$68.  Ages 4 & up.

Family Night Hike at Mercer Slough: Get a different take on nature with a family night walk at Mercer Slough!  We’ll meet up with the Pacific Science Center’s Environmental Educators to explore nature and learn all about nocturnal animals and how they use darkness to help them survive.  Then we’ll head outside on the trails to listen for nocturnal critters like owls!  Engage all of our senses on this exciting hike!  Friday, May 5, 5:30 PM-10:30 PM. $18/$23. Ages 6 & up.

KayakFamily Fort Worden Sea Kayak: Explore the battlements at  historic Fort Worden State Park!  After lunch we’ll get a lesson in sea kayaking, then hit the water in search of bald eagles, porpoise, seals and river otters!  This is beginner level kayaking, perfect for families of all ages, no experience is necessary.  Participants should bring a sack lunch, water bottle, hat, sunscreen, sturdy shoes for hiking and comfortable clothes for kayaking.  Kayaking is a water sport so a change of clothes may be necessary from paddle drips.  Saturday, September 9, 8:00 AM-6:00 PM. $63/$79. Ages 6 and up.


Family_HikeCoal Creek Falls Winter Hike

The Free Family Series, Families On The Move continues in March with a winter hike to Coal Creek Falls.  Families will meet at the Auburn Community & Event Center before heading off on this family friendly hike.  Dress in layers and wear waterproof shoes.  Bring a sack lunch and water bottle. Saturday, March 18, 9:00 AM- 3:00 PM.  $5. Ages 6 & up.  Pre-registration is required.



Cooking is fun for the whole family!  The Family Foodies series will bring families together in the kitchen to concoct delicious and nutritious recipes.

Covert Desserts: Mix and measure for the perfect dessert!  Use the traditional ingredients and learn the secret ingredients that make the recipe COVERT!  It's extra delicious!  Friday, March 24, 6:30 PM-8:30PM. $5, Ages 6 & up.

Auburn Chopped, Dessert Edition: It's a fan favorite!  Auburn Chopped is back; get your team together and battle  it out in the kitchen to find the best dessert using all of the ingredients!  This is a family event; children must be accompanied by an adult.  Friday, April 28, 6:30 PM-9:00 PM. $5, Ages 6 & up. 

Pizza in a Pot: Everyone loves pizza!  Learn to make your own Pizza in a Pot!  We'll provide all the plants, potting soil, and dirt so you can create your own one pot pizza for your backyard or patio.  Before you know it you'll have fresh ingredients to make pizza at home.  Saturday, May 6, 1:00-3:00 PM.  $5, Ages 6 and up.


Auburn_FITAuburn FIT (Families in Training): A free, 7-week wellness program for families looking to develop lasting, healthy lifestyles in the New Year. Families that are selected to participate in this program will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30-8:00 PM for classes on nutrition and physical activity. Each class will include an interactive portion in which families will be preparing meals, sampling new dishes and getting active together. By the end of the program, families will have gained the confidence and habits they need to continue this positive behavior for the rest of their lives. Ages 8+, childcare may be available upon request. To participate, families must have at least one child between the ages of 8 and 12 years of age.  Younger children may register with the approval of the Coordinator.  Application required by 2/28/17.
