Classes and Programs

Parents Night Out (Ages 5-11) - Drop your kids off at the Les Gove Gym for an evening of games, arts & crafts, inflatable toys and sports while you enjoy a parents night out!  All activities will be facilitated and supervised by trained staff who have undergone a National Background Check.  Kids in the Parents' Night Out program will have exclusive use of the gym.  Dinner and snacks are provided.  If you are registering online and wish to register a second sibling at the reduced rate, please call
253-931-3043.  Saturdays, 5:00 PM - 10:00 PM.  Ages 5 -11.  $16/$20.  Additional Siblings: $10/$12.

Birthday Party Packages - The Parks, Arts & Recreation Division offers fantastic Birthday Party Packages using the Les Gove Park Gymnasium as an activity center complete with a party host, pizza or a birthday cake, and treat bags for birthday party guests. Call 253-931-3043 for complete details and available dates.

Cooking_MattersCooking Matters for Kids - Young chefs join together to wash, chop, mix and cook their way to healthy and delicious meals!  Kids will learn all the necessary skills to make nutritious food choices and most importantly, that healthy food tastes good!  Get ready to take your taste buds on a whole new adventure!  Dinner will be provided!  Wednesdays, 3:30 PM- 5:00 PM.  Ages 8-12.  $36/$48.

Alice_JrDisney Alice in Wonderland (Through the Rabbit Hole) Beginning Acting - Using the Disney Alice in Wonderland Junior text as inspiration, young performing artists will explore techniques and gain experiences helping them better understand how to animate a story through live performance!  Students will learn valuable skills that will enhance their vocal strength, physical awareness, team work, focus, imagination and stage etiquette.  Each student will  be responsible for creating his/her own costume, stage makeup and hairstyle.  Memorization of lines, blocking, and careful examination of the text will be required as part of script analysis.  There will be a performance for friends and family on the final day of class.  Tuesdays, September 26-November 14, 5:00 PM- 6:00 PM.  Ages 6-10.  $100/$125.


Workshops

Meditation for kidsMeditation for Kids! Meditation has been shown to improve concentration and focus and reduce anxiety.  Kids will learn a variety of techniques they can use to help calm themselves and face challenges with ease.  This workshop is fun and interactive for kids!   Saturdays, 10:15 AM-11:00 AM.  Ages 9-12.  $10/$13.

STEAM Tweens!
STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math - and we've got it all!  Gear up this fall for the most exciting after-school classes around!  Is your kid a maker? A Tinkerer? An Artist? An aspiring inventor or engineer?  Join us at the Auburn MakerSpace!

 

  • Mad Scientist Boot Camp - If you plan to grow up to wear rainbow-colored goggles, cackle maniacally at your arch-nemesis, and fall asleep to the sound of bubbling and steaming beakers of mysterious potions, we've got a training session just for you! We're not doing the kind of science that teaches you how magnets work? We're teaching you how to make the goopiest goop, the weirdest smells, and the creepiest things-in-jars! 
    Mondays, September 25-October 16, 5:00 PM-7:00 PM.
  • 3...2...1 Blast Off! - Build and launch your own rockets at The REC! We'll use 3D printed parts made in our Makerspace and learn all about the science of what makes rockets fly and what we can use them for! Thursdays, September 28-October 19, 5:00 PM-7:00 PM. 
  • Rube Goldberg's Ridiculous & Crazy Machines - If you like your inventions huge, impractical, and totally absurd, then come on down! We'll learn all about simple machines-and then combine them into improbable contraptions that will test your creativity and engineering skills!
    Mondays, October 23-November 13, 5:00PM-7:00PM.
  • Brick Films - Have you seen LEGO Batman or The LEGO Movie? Get started in filmmaking by making your own Brick Film? A Brick Film is a stop-motion animation made with the LEGOS we all know and love.  Thursdays, October 26-November 16, 5:00 PM-7:00 PM. 
  • Steam GroupRobots, Robots, Robots! - They wiggle, they wobble, they scoot and shimmy, they're robots! We'll build robots with different types of motors, that we can program to run on their own, and even use LEGO Mindstorm kits to make robotic vehicles! Learn all about electricity and mechanics.  Mondays, November 20-December 11, 5:00 PM-7:00 PM. 
  • Code Your Own Video Games! - Learn to make your own videogames using Scratch, a free online software you can use on your own at home to continue building your projects! We'll show you the basics of making point and click, story-based, keyboard controlled, and racing games, even RPGS!
