Neighborhood traffic issuesThe City of Auburn actively seeks to ensure neighborhoods are safe and enjoyable. As part of this effort, we encourage residents and business owners to notify the City when a traffic problem exists in a residential neighborhood, whether it is related to speeding, visibility, pedestrian safety, or another issue. A staff member from the City's transportation section will conduct an initial field evaluation and appropriate studies to assess the problem. A recommendation will be made based on the findings. If the recommendation requires a relatively low-cost solution that can be addressed with existing resources, we will remedy the problem within a short timeframe. If the problem warrants a more extensive solution, staff can provide guidance on next steps.
Neighborhood traffic calming programThe City of Auburn adopted a Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program in 2005 to better manage speeding issues and cut-through traffic in Auburn's residential areas. The Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program provides guidance on the City's process for identifying speeding and cut-through traffic problems. It also highlights some techniques that may be employed to remedy these problems. The Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program is designed to comprehensively examine a neighborhood's traffic issues, with the recognition that an improvement on one road may impact travel patterns on a nearby street. Hence, the program seeks to identify solutions that will benefit the entire neighborhood, as well as obtain participation and consensus from the majority of neighborhood residents. For more information on the Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program, please contact Chris Hankins, Transportation Planner/Grants Manager at 253-804-5040 or chankins@auburnwa.gov. |
