Non-motorized travel

Non-motorized transportation is an integral component of Auburn’s transportation system. Non-motorized travel includes walking, bicycling, and equestrian travel, as well as emerging modes. The City wants to enhance the non-motorized travel environment both for recreational travel and trips that might otherwise be taken via a car or bus in order to improve mobility and environmental health. The City also seeks to build the non-motorized network in order to meet the guidelines of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The expansion and improvement of Auburn’s Non-motorized system is a high priority for the City, both to enhance recreational activities and to provide a viable means of travel. The City has recently inventoried its sidewalk system, bicycle lanes/routes, and multi-use paths. The City has also identified prioritization criteria for installing new sidewalks, as well as the location of future bicycle routes and multi-use paths.
