About the program

The goal of Traffic Safety Program is to reduce speeding and cut through traffic in residential neighborhoods to improve the residents’ quality of life and improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

In April 2025, we shared the proposed improvements with you and heard your feedback. Based on that feedback, as well as the data we collected, the City is installing measures to support traffic safety in the focus areas. These improvements include:

Dick Scobee Area

• Install speed cushions on:
  • 17th St NE
  • 16th St NE
  • 14th St NE between M St NE and Pike St NE
  • On either side of the 10th St NE - O St NE curve
• Add stops signs on:
  • M St NE at the intersection with 10th St NE
  • 11th St NE at the intersection with O St NE
• Remove the east-west stop signs at the 14th St NE and O St NE intersection.
• Ensure all streets have speed limit signs.

Northeast Main St Area

• Install speed cushions on:
  • N St NE between E Main St and 6th St NE
  • O St NE between E Main St and 2nd St NE
  • Pike St NE between E Main St and 6th St NE
• Ensure all streets have speed limit signs.

Dogwood St SE Area

• Install speed cushions on Dogwood St SE between 19th Dr SE and Skyway Ln.
